NASA's DAWN spacecraft is preparing to leave orbit around Vesta and head towards its' next world, Ceres, the largest asteroid in the solar system. The spacecraft will start spiraling away from Vesta on September 4th and get on course for Ceres.
The ion engine will allow DAWN to gain speed but it will still take years to get to Ceres. If all goes well we will see another world up close and personal in early 2015. That is the same year New Horizons gets to Pluto so we have a bonanza of solar system exploration ahead of us.
